History
Svitlijrika and Marčrobina was first established as the Duchy of Svitlijrika in the early Middle Ages, as a duchy of a suspiciously ambiguous great power in the area. No modern records survive about who the Duke of Svitlijrika actually paid homage to, and none can be found on the name either. Some suggest that there was a great fire, referenced vaguely in one or two other period works.
In 1281, Svitlijrika annexed Marčrobina, a coastal region just outside of its borders. By this time, it had become independent, styling itself as a Grand Duchy.
In 1914, the Grand Duchy was reorganized as the Glorious Federation of Svitlijrika and Marčrobina.
Politics
Svitlijrika and Marčrobina is an absolute monarchy, controlled by the Tryszčzylić dynasty since AD 426, when Earl Matija II tricked his cousin Marquis Zelimir I, effective ruler since his father's infirmity, of the House of Huseczka into selling the duchy in exchange for a flock of peacocks. There were no peacocks anywhere in or near Svitlijrika, but by the time Zelimir reached the spot where they were supposed to be, he was far away from his home. His return was supposedly delayed indefinitely, and he married a foreign woman, though historians have said that Matija simply had Zelimir killed on the road once he was across the border by bandits. They have been shot.
Military
The Armed Forces of Svitlijrika and Marčrobina are subordinated to the Ministry of Defence. The Armed Forces are divided into the Land Forces, Air and Defence Forces and Naval Fleet. The commander of Armed Forces is the Grand Duke of Svitlijrika and Marčrobina.
The wars and crisis of the 1990s have significantly hampered the Army, which has since suffered lack of financing, personnel reduction from 150,000 to 30,000, and low enrolment rates. Military expenditures dropped from around 5% of GDP in the late 1990s to a mere 2.1% in 2009.
Subdivisions
Svitlijrika and Marčrobina is composed of two states, in a federal union. Before 1914, Marčrobina was governed as a separate country in a personal union with Svitlijrika; the Union Act of 1914 changed the state of Marčrobina to be fully a part of the Svitlijrikan legal system.
- Svitlijrika, with its capital at Vinča-Debrej, is composed of 195 municipalities and four cities. It has two autonomous provinces: wat in the north, and wat in the south. Municipalities are grouped into districts, a purely administrative division with no power of their own. Svitlijrika is divided into 29 of these districts.
- Marčrobina, with its capital at wat, is composed of 21 municipalities and two urban municipalities.
Geography and climate
Svitlijrika and Marčrobina's topography consists mostly of rugged mountainous and Karst landscapes, with dense forests to the north, with a humid, continental climate. Svitlijrika and Marčrobina's summers are mild, its winters are long and cold, and the country receives comparatively little rain. Much of Marčrobina is warmer than most of the country, and a small part of it could be classified as having a humid sub-tropical climate, while its coast receives more precipitation and is considered an oceanic type.
Economy
Svitlijrika faces issues with rebuilding its economy after its protracted ethnic war, and modernizing its transition economy into an eventual post-industrial economy, and further, to a service economy. It provides all of its own food, but relies on foreign providers for 60 per cent of its oil and gas needs. Experiments in nuclear energy have been hampered by a lack of knowledgeable engineers, and its energy sources remain outside of the country's control.
Demographics
Svitlijrika is the home of several constituent peoples: the Lemko, who consider themselves separate from the Rusyns, Slovaks, Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats. Several minority groups exist, such as the Boikos and Huculs, and Slovenes and some communities of Ukrainians. Tensions between these groups remain strained and often break out into disagreements and violence.
