On January 14, 2010, at 1:20 PM, 5 members of the terrorist group EILF, or East Iraqialandian Liberation Front, detonated a bomb placed in the Great Hall, located in Andertion, kicking off the Polaris Tower attacks. 12 minutes later, they detonated bombs located in the antenna, elevators, furnace, and ventilation system of the event's name sake, Polaris Tower, located in Orlkjestad's capital city of 38 million people in the metropolitan area, Kolsvabard. Within 20 minutes the 2,021 foot tall building, once the second tallest building in Orlkjestad, tumbled down on top of neighboring buildings and Parliament Avenue. Within 2 hours of the attacks, the EILF took responsibility for the attacks. Killing 5,217 people, they are sometimes heralded as the deadliest terrorist attacks of all-time.
Attacks
The first of the attacks, occurring at 1:20PM OST, was at the Great Hall, located in the nation of Andertion. During the time in which the Great Hall was attacked, Emporer Aksoska Reid II of Andertion was in the building. It is suspected that the EILF attempted to kill the Emperor, but he managed to escape. The overall death toll of this attack is 500. 12 minutes later, at 1:32 OST, bombs planted in the furnace, elevators, antenna, and ventilation system detonated. This was the deadliest of the attacks, killing 4,717 people, as it collapsed upon neighboring buildings and Parliament Avenue below. Throughout the city of Kolsvabard, panicked crowds ran to tell their friends and family. the attacks set a new world record for amount of text messages sent withing 10 minutes and amount of cell phone calls within 10 minutes. The attackers, however, killed themselves in the attacks.
Response
Almost immediately after the attacks, OBC reporter Gregor Andersen broadcasted his famous emotional report on the attacks, through which he almost cried through completely. Soon after, Prime Minister Sir Olaf Gregorsen held a press conference, in which he said his famous words:

The EILF had it bad when they assassinated former Prime Minister Rusnak, but let me just tell them now - Hell will now descend upon them. As of now, East Iraqialand's autonomy shall be taken away, and the province is now under martial law. WE are also sending 75,000 troops to combat these heartless demons. We wish to warn other countries that the EILF may attack you in the foreseeable future. We URGE all nations to increase security at airports, mass transit stops, and train stations. We have also closed ALL airports, train stations, and mass transit systems in the nation until the threat decreases. | ” |
Andertion, in the meantime, almost immediately sent troops to East Iraqialand. Teinohikira also sent military support to East Iraqialand. Chezovolvia sent 10,000 troops to East Iraqialand along with food & medical supplies and search & rescue teams to Kolsvabard. The Gelboro Invasion, named for the first city the troops captured, marked the beginning of Orlkjestad's War on Terrorism.
