Ostronopolis, officially the Federal Republic of Ostronopolis or The Federal Republic of Ostronopolis and the Associated Commonwealths Whereby is a nation located in the central hemisphere on the continent of Sailia. Demographically Ostronopolis is among the largest nations in the continent, and one of the most active in it's affairs. Famous for it's historical defense and interventionism within the region, a definitive Ostronopolian hegemony has long since been established, alongside fellow major powers of the continent which continue to exercise power regionally to promote mutual continental defense and expansion of regional interests.

Within the politics of the continent, Ostronopolis is the official delegated nation to the World Assembly from the Sailian continent, receiving a majority of votes from the regional members. International politics remain a front-runner in the internal and foreign policy of the Federal Republic. Although the nation is notorious for its strong resistance to many World Assembly bills.

Historically the interventionism in regional politics began during The Great Purge of outsider influence, leading to the violent revolutions and civil wars which took place during the 800s A.D.through large and continuous levels of Ostronopolian support and direct intervention.

The Republic was birthed upon the Federal Declaration of Independence, Liberty and National Determinant Establishment from the Xzarian Empire in 546 A.D. Established based on the rule of classical liberalism and constitution based federalism, the nation has, while undergoing changes, remained intact and sovereign for over fifteen hundred years. During that era, the wartime oligarchy was established by the founding fathers as they are now known, of the republic.

Ostronopolis is a member of several large international coalitions such as the Global Democratic Federation (GDF), where Ostronopolian ambassador Mark Bouwn serves as General Secretary. Other coalitions where Ostronopolis retains membership are SCUTUM, The Collaboration of Allied Governments (CAG) and the League of Republics (LoR).

History

Geography and Climate

The total land area of Ostronopolis is approximately 6.9 billion acres. Hampshire, is the largest state at 585 million acres. Haway the smallest, has just over 4 million acres.

The coastal plain of the Atlantic seaboard gives way further inland to deciduous forests and the rolling hills of the West. The Appale Mountains divide the eastern seaboard from the many lakes which dot the landscape and the grasslands of the Midwest. The Great Forne River, runs mainly north–south through the heart of the country. The flat, fertile prairie of the Great Plains stretches to the west, interrupted by a highland region in the southeast. The Divizing Mountains, at the western edge of the Great Plains, extend north to south across the country, reaching altitudes higher than 14,000 feet and named for their inert separation of the nation, infamous for their role in the civil wars, (4,300 m) in Colorand. Farther west are the rocky Great Basin and deserts such as the Mojave. The Sierra Nevada and Cascade mountain ranges run close to the Pacific coast. At 20,320 feet (6,194 m), Mount McKinley is the country's tallest peak. Active volcanoes are common throughout Alaskana's Gregory Isles, and Haway consists of volcanic islands. Further north is the Great Snow Plains which are known for their barren, inhospitable, yet oil rich landscape. Further north is even icier and soon goes into the Arctic circle which is also inhospitable without heavy winter and cold protection gear.

Ostronopolis, with its large size and geographic variety, includes most climate types. To the east of the hundredth meridian, the climate ranges from humid continental in the north to humid subtropical in the south. The southern tip of Florindia is tropical, as is Haway. The Great Plains west of the hundredth meridian are semi-arid. Much of the Western mountains are alpine. The climate is arid in the Great Basin, desert in the Southwest, Mediterranean in coastal Californica, and oceanic in coastal Orentor and Wapings and southern Alaskania. Most of Alaskania is subarctic or polar, as is the upper arctic states. Extreme weather is not uncommon—the states bordering the Gulf of Martoni are prone to hurricanes, and many of the region's tornadoes occur within the country, mainly in the Midwest's Tornado Alley.

Ostronopolis's ecology is considered "megadiverse": about 17,000 species of vascular plants occur in the nation, and over 1,800 species of flowering plants are found in Haway, few of which occur on the mainland. Ostronopolis is home to more than 400 mammal, 1020 bird, and 700 reptile and amphibian species. About 103,000 insect species have been described. There are many organizations protects threatened and endangered species and their habitats, which are either monitored by state Fish and Wildlife Services (Where applicable), as well as private charities and other such entities determined and contracted with the state and federal governments. There are forty-five national parks and hundreds of other federally managed parks, forests, and wilderness areas. Altogether, the government owns 16.3% of the country's land area. Most of this is protected, though some is leased for gas drilling, mining, logging, or cattle ranching; 4.4% is used for military purposes.

The government of Ostronopolis is complex, federalist system established and evolved for over fifteen hundred years of it's existence.
