Northford, officially the Questarian Commonwealth of Northford, is a country whose metropolitan territory is located in South Western Haven and that also comprises various dozen overseas islands, territories and colonies located in other continents and regions. Metropolitan Northford extends from the Strait of Doomanum to the Strobovia Strait and Jenkins Bay, and on land from the city of Wells in the far west to Hallcross' needles in the far east. Northfordian peoples often refer to Metropolitan Northford as the mainland, while referring to Northfordian overseas holdings collectively as Territories.
Northford is bordered by the Cravanian enclave of Carpanthium in the North-east, and the Doomani Territory of Nuclearum in the south. Due to its overseas territories, Northford also shares land borders with the Cravanian Arterusian Territories (Northfordian Arterus), Illiorian Arterusian Territories (Northfordian Arterus), and Questarian East Continentia (Northfordian Continentia - Archbello). Northford is also linked to the Realm of Cotland by the extra-territorial "Nuclearum link", which passes underneath the Doomani Territory of Nuclearum.[[[|context?]]]
Northford is a unitary parliamentary democracy with a bicameral legislature. Power is vested, on behalf of the people, in the Northfordian House of Commons. Historically, Northford has been remarkably liberal with its political structure, reforming its parliament numerous times (notable acts include the Commonwealth Governance Act in 1980 and the well-known Redbridge Reform Act in 2001). In the past, Northford was an isolated member of the international community; however, through several strong bilateral relations (Franberry and Cravan) Northford opened up its doors to the international community, and, through the now-defunct GASN alliance, was able to position itself as one of the premier 'Middle Powers'. After the demise of the GASN, and the solidification of Northford's place in Haven, it quickly associated itself with one of the 'Hyperpowers' in Haven - Questers.
