The Leftwich-class Guided Missile Frigate (FFG), designed as a replacement for the Oliver Hazard Perry class frigate, is the premier FFG in service in the Belkan Kaiserliche Marine. Designed by the Hypersphere Technologies Ltd.’s Hephaestus Shipyard Division, the Leftwich-class is a formidable warship with a varity of weapons, including most curiously a Titanium-Tungsten alloy Battering Ram.

Sketch of the Leftwich-Class

The Leftwich’s electronic suite is based on that of the Zumwalt-Class DDX, in which the SPY-3 Phased Array Radar and other various sensors have been installed in a mast similar to that on the Zumwalt. Also on board the Leftwich are 2 sonar systems, the hull mounted AN/SQS-56 and the towed AM/SQR-19 Towed Array Sonar. In order for the AN/SQS-56 to be mounted with the Battering Ram, the sonar has been placed to an armored box with struts to redirect the shock of ramming another ship around the sonar system.

Armament

As mentioned, the Leftwich is armed with a varity of weapons. These weapons include a dual mounted 76mm guns, 25mm Bushmaster turrets, Mk. 57 Strike Peripheral Vertical Launch System, and unqiue to the Leftwich, Titanium-Tungsten alloy Battering Ram. The battering ram was selected for use in the unlikely emergency that the ship has expended all of it's shells & missiles and needs to continue battle. By using its high speed, the Leftwich can punch a hole below the waterline in a enemy ship with up to 7 inches of high grade steel armor, more than enough to greatly damage most modern escort ships such as the Ticonderoga class cruiser.

In the defensive armament, the Leftwich is equipped with various weapons. The two most obvious ones are the SeaRAM launcher and a pair of Nulka Decoy launchers. What aren’t visible are 2 four tube 162mm anti-torpedo launchers, one on each side. Using small 162mm short range torpedoes, the system guides the smaller torpedoes on an intercept course to hostile torpedoes. Another unseen defensive weapon is directed radar emitter at the top of the mast. Using radar waves, the Leftwich can burn out an incoming missile’s radar guidance and cause it to crash into the water.

Developments

International Reactions

A high ranking Naacalian Admiral, after viewing the Leftwich-Class for evaluation for service, stated 'So...if a Leftwich is what you get when a Zumwalt knocks up a Perry, did the Perry at least get kissed?'

When shown the designs of the Leftwich-Class, a former admiral of the Federalemarine and current vice president of design with Port Roanoke Shipyards, commented "A ship with a battering ram? I've heard 'Damn the torpedoes, full steam ahead' but if you're within visual range of a hostile fleet, you're doing something wrong." He then quickly crumpled the picture and threw it in the closest wastebasket stating, "I've got real ships to design"
