Law enforcement in Cotland
From WikiStates
Law enforcement is divided into two elements in Cotland: Local law enforcement, which include all local law enforcement entities at the provincial or colonial level; and national law enforcement, which include all law enforcement agencies which have jurisdiction throughout the Realm of Cotland and its holdings.
Rikspolitiet
The national Law Enforcement element in Cotland is represented by an agency called Rikspolitiet (English: National Police), which is the principal investigative arm of the Royal Ministry for Justice, serving as both a federal criminal investigative body and a domestic intelligence agency. At present, Rikspolitiet has investigative jurisdiction over violations of more than 400 categories of national crimes, making Rikspolitiet the de-facto lead law enforcement agency of the Realm of Cotland. Rikspolitiet was drastically reorganized following the introduction of the Declaration of Fundamental Rights in Cotland.
Rikspolitiet's headquarters is located in Jusitsia House in downtown Eeobroht, Cotland, and there are 450 field offices located in major cities and important places throughout the Realm of Cotland and its colonies, as well as over 1000 resident agencies in smaller cities and towns across the nation, plus over 100 international offices that are called "Legal Attachés" in Cottish embassies worldwide.
The legal justification for the existance of Rikspolitiet is found in Royal Decree 36 of 8 February 1903, which authorize the Minister for Justice to "appoint officials in a seperate national agency that is to detect and prevent crimes against the Realm of Cotland." Other legal statutes give Rikspolitiet the authority and responsibility to investigate specific crimes.
