Kampfers, officially the Neo-Prussian Dictatorship of Kampfers ('kæmpfɜɻs), is a country located within the region of Haven. It is bordered to the north by Hattia; to the east by the Questarian island chain and by the Haven Strait; to the south by Tnemrot; and to the west by Zukariaa. The territory of Kampfers covers 5,793,300 km² and is influenced by a Temperate Seasonal Climate.

A region named Kampfers inhabited by several Kampferian ethnic groups has been known and documented before 100 AD. Until the 18th century, Kampfers existed as a region only, inhabited by multiple confederations, although there were numerous unification talks during the 17th century. As a modern nation-state, the country was first unified amidst the Pass War of 1814, in which Kampfers acquired many territorial claims that were disputed amongst both the nations, most of which are still retained by Kampfers. Kampfers is a prolific member of Haven, has been a part of the Jesselton Pact with QC bloc since 1976, and with a GDP per capita of over 78 thousand, it comprises on of the strongest and fastest growing economies among Havenic nations.

Kampfers is a dictatorship with thirteen provinces or states. The capital and largest city is Kampfers Stadt. Kampfers is currently not a member of any alliances but is the founder of the Lantol Accord. It is one of the smaller nations within Haven, but maintains one of the world's top militarys and economies per capita. Kampfers has developed a high standard of living seen through its high Human Development Index. It holds a key position in Havenic affairs, world affairs as a whole, and is recognized as a scientific and technological leader in several fields.

History

The ethnogenesis of the Kampferian tribes is generally believed to have occurred circa 1800 BCE - 500 BCE. Although the tribes originated in the southeast portions of Kampfers around the bays, where the majority of Kampferians still reside, they eventually began to spread outward, inhabiting areas far north and west of the Himmelgrund Mountains. Contact with other tribes at the time was rare, and some tribes set sail to the east in hopes of finding other human life. Journeys like this lead to the eventual founding of the city of Gantrickburgh, a beacon of liberty and prosperity and still one of the most important ports in Kampfers today. Very little recorded history has been preserved from this period, and much of what is understood comes from speculation, archaeological digs, and recorded contact with Bruxellan tribes.

Kampferian Confederation (1104-1814)

Created in 1104 to defend Kampferian Kingdoms against foreign aggression, the Kampferian Confederation was a loose league of 13 sovereign states. This league laid the foundation for a future Kampferian nation, and existed as a treaty alliance for over 700 years. The Confederation saw its most pressing days come in 1335 when the Tengran hordes made their way over the Kampferian border as a part of the Zukariaan Great War. The Confederation eventually repelled the attack with the help of General Daniel Müller, who is said to be a direct ancestor of the House of Richtoff. Other than minor border skirmishes with an emerging Hattian state, this was the only time that the Kampferian Confederation was actually used for mutual defense. For the majority of its existance, the Confederation was nothing more than a trading league of ethnically similar Kingdoms.

Unification (1814)

The state known as Kampfers was unified as a modern nation-state in 1814, when the Kampferian Confederation came together to forge the Prussian Dictatorship of Kampfers, with the city-state of Kampfers Stadt as its most powerful constituent. After the Hattian attack to begin the Pass War of 1814, the Prussian Dictatorship of Kampfers (Preußische Diktatur des Kampfers) was proclaimed in Kampfers Stadt on March 25, 1814. The Richtoff dynasty ruled the new nation, whose capital was Kampfers Stadt. The nation was a unification of all the scattered parts of Kampfers except Versmold and Aurich (Kleinkampfers, or "Lesser Kampfers").

Imperialist Empire (1815-1846)

Although not much occurred for the first few years of the newly formed Kampferian Reich, each was important as it allowed the nation time to gather its forces together. Beginning in 1831, Kampfers began establishing several colonies outside of her continent. The first of these was Neu Prussia. Founded on July 10, 1831, the colony symbolized Kampferian power and nationalism. It was by far the largest of the colonies, and its strategic location on the Strobovian Strait made it a popular location for trade routes to stop by. As such, it amassed a much more international culture than the homeland did. Kampferian East Karain was the next colony founded. Although colonization began in 1832, the indigenous tribes were not subdued until 1844. These tribes would play a prominent role in shaping the colonies role throughout history. Kampferian Arguin was founded in 1845. In a location guarding the passage of the Hallad Strait, the inhospitable cliffs marking the edge of the island made it less of a trade haven than a military outpost, watching the far reaches of Kampferian influence.

Downfall and Restoration (1847-1879)

When John I died in 1847, his eldest son, Adolfus I took control of the office of the Fuhrer. Although Kampfers saw many good things come to place under the reign of Adolfus I, the ruler began to show a lack of trust in the common man. Work camps known for their intense slave labor began to pop up amidst the Himmelgrund Mountains, and the populace lived in fear of their leader. During Adolfus I's annual trip to the colony of Neu Prussia, a forced-conscription Kampferian soldier shot him twice in the head[1]. What followed was a minor power struggle between Adolfus' son, Luther I and Adolfus' wife, Emilia. The eventual death of Emilia from heart palpitations[1] made a strong imprint on the young Luther's mind, and he became a very devout individual. Due to the public's restored confidence in the monarchy, and the new monarch after the assassination, Luther I amended the word "Neo-" onto the nations title of "Prussian Dictatorship"[1].

International Activity and the Pan-Havenic War (1880-1979)

Soon after Luther I assumed complete control, however, turmoil broke out. The great powers of Haven at the time stirred, and waged the deadliest war in human history.[1] The Pan-Havenic Twenty Year's War claimed the lives of nearly one million Kampferians, including Luther I himself. He was killed at the historic Battle for Edwin Farm, which saw the largest number of deployed soldiers ever, as well as the highest number of casualties ever recorded. This war marked the beginning of true Kampferian involvement overseas, and forced a young Peter II to the throne. Ten years after the war was over, Kampfers was still not able to invest as heavily in its forces abroad. Seeing its opportunity, a rebellion sprung up in the foothills of Kampferian East Karain. Realizing that fighting the rebellion would be logistically impossible, Peter II decided that it would be best if Kampfers abandoned the colony, and it formed the Democratic Republic of Angrazo. Roughly 65 years later, Kampfers entered into its first ever international alliance, with the signing of the Jesselton Pact. This pact roughly aligned the QC/RGL bloc with the independent Kampferian state both economically, politically, and militarily[1].

Recent History (1980-present)

With the arrival of Eric I to the throne, Kampfers became a hotspot for international activity. For a long time, Kampfers maintained a membership in the United Federation of Allied Nations (UFAN). Over the course of her membership in the alliance, Kampfers rose to prominence and eventually took a leading role in guiding the alliance. After several disputes with Vetakan and Wagdian leadership over the direction of the alliance and the membership of questionable nations such as Aurum Domus, Kampfers honorably stepped down from its position in the alliance. Not wishing to lose ties to her closest nations, however, Richtoff signed a secret pact with the nations of Wagdog, Vetaka, and Honako, ensuring the continued alliance of the involved nations despite what happened to UFAN. As these nations faded into isolation, however, Kampfers began to forge relations with other nations to ensure continued prosperity and safety in the turbulent times of international affairs.

After some amount of time had passed, Kampfers helped to found the second iteration of the Alliance for the Preservation Of Civilization (APOC). Although many reasons were publicized for the alliance's existence, the alliance's true purpose was to provide a collective front for the nations of Haven to stand against Gholgoth and the New Alliance Treaty Organization's (NATO) aggression. The alliance garnered much international support, unifying nations so dissimilar as Doomingsland, Questers, and Zeppelin Manufacturers Incorporated against the perceived threat. In the end, both APOC and NATO dissolved from internal pressure. After the disappointment from the collapse of APOC, however, Kampfers withdrew from large alliances completely and began a short period of isolationism. During this time, Neu Prussia came under attack from Cotland and significant territorial concessions were made. Also during this time, the garrison at Kampferian Arguin peaceably transferred control of the island to Prestonian forces for safekeeping during the isolationist period. Shortly thereafter, however, the Prestonian garrison was overwhelmed by Doomani soldiers from Azaha, and the Kampferian colony was lost. When the country finally emerged, it was with Mikel II on the throne. Recent times have seen the establishment of Kampferian Witu near the Candrian Empire.

Mikel II's reign as fuhrer passed fairly quietly, without any major forays into the international scene other than the establishment of Kampferian Tertholen, an outpost colony in South Haven. The colonization effort bought to the forefront the expertise of Kurt Schwarzer, a fast rising officer in the Kampferian Army. In early 2006, Mikel II stepped down, preferring a quiet retirement to the pressures of political power. His eldest son, Graf IV, succeeded him at the tender age of 19.

Climate

Scenery in Kihrtrop.

Most of Kampfers has a temperate seasonal climate in which humid westerly winds predominate. The climate is moderated by the warm water of the Haven Strait. This warmer water affects the areas bordering the Gulf von der Stadt and the Hörnsee, predominately the cities of Kampfers Stadt, North Point, Port Yorkbere, and Jutesdon, and the area along the Voelk River and the River Main, which flows into the Hörnsee and the Gulf von der Stadt respectively. Consequently in the south-east and the east, the climate is oceanic; rainfall occurs year round with a maximum during summer.

Winters are mild and summers tend to be cool, though temperatures can exceed 30 °C (86 °F) for prolonged periods. In the north-west, the climate is more continental; winters can be very cold, summers can be very warm, and long dry periods are often recorded, although snowfall is common during the winter months. North and West Kampfers are transition regions which vary from moderately oceanic to continental. Again, the maximum temperature can exceed 30 °C (86 °F) in summer.

Environment

The peregrine falcon is a widespread species in Kampfers.

The territory of Kampfers can be subdivided into three ecoregions: the Northwest forested mountains, Coastal temperate forests, and Western grasslands. The majority of Kampfers is covered by either arable land (26%) or forestry and woodland (36%). Only 12% is covered by permanent pastures.

More than one third of the country´s area is covered with forests. (Weiß Forest)

Plants and animals are those generally common to middle Europe. Beeches, oaks, and other deciduous trees constitute one-third of the forests; conifers are increasing as a result of reforestation. Spruce and fir trees predominate in the upper mountains, while pine and larch are found in sandy soil. There are many species of ferns, flowers, fungi, and mosses. Fish abound in the rivers and the Hörnsee. Wild animals include deer, wild boar, fox, badger, hare, and small numbers of beaver. Numerous migratory birds make their homes in Kampfers in the spring and summer.

Kampfers's carbon dioxide emissions per capita are among the highest in Haven, although they are significantly lower than those of Questers and Zeppelin Manufacturers. Emissions from coal-burning utilities and industries contribute to air pollution. Concerns have arose about deforestation, and as a result numerous national parks have sprung up across Kampfers in recent years. Natural hazards are river flooding in spring and stormy winds in all regions. Hurricanes have historically struck the south Kampferian coast, but this only occurs infrequently.
