Physical geography
North Point is most famous for its location on top of an ancient supervolcano. According to volcanologists, the explosion of the Springfield-Ljungmann Volcano probably took place over 45 million years ago, and the eruption devastated almost an entire continent. Thankfully, the volcano has been determined to be extinct. The caldera it left behind was quickly filled with water, and eventually the forces of nature created the beautiful landscape of North Point. Most of the larger islands, such as North Point Proper, Wellington Island, and Lauderdale Island, have large, mountainous interiors which gradually turn into hilly piedmonts and then into vast coastal plains nearest the ocean. Many of the smaller islands are made entirely of ancient coral deposits. North Point is a prominent vacation destination in Haven because of its beaches and sightseeing opportunities.

Climate
The climate on most of the coasts is tropical almost year-round, while the interiors barely classify as humid subtropical climates.

Flora
North Point's national tree is the Loblolly Pine, which grows in abundance along the coastal plain. Most of the forests covering the larger continents are dominated by species of pine mixed with hickory and oak. The usually well-developed understory is mostly yaupon, holly, and saw palmetto, which flourish under the canopy. This type of forest is often known locally as the piney woods.
The interiors of the different islands range from savanna to jungle.
Near the coasts, coconut palms and other tropical plants and trees grow in the hot and wet climate.
Fauna
Mammals such as rabbits, squirrels, opossums, deer, armadillos, foxes, bobcats, cougars, and raccoons, thrive in the temperate forests and, to a lesser extent, in the jungles. Snakes, lizards, and treefrogs are also very common. Cranes, Mockingbirds, and woodpeckers flourish in the forests.
North Point's territorial waters are filled with sea life. Thousands of miles of coral reefs provide a habitat for hundreds of different types of tropical fish.
Natural resources
North Point's coastal and piedmont regions have a strong timber industry, and the pine forests were once prized for their abundance of tar, timber, and resin, which were used for naval stores. A relatively large steel industry exists in San Salvacion and North Beach. Parts of the country's interior, especially the mountainous regions, have vast reserves of minerals and raw materials. A thriving fishing industry exists in almost every coastal city. There are several large oilfields off the coast of Wellington Island, with refining facilities in Salisbury, Anchor Point City, and San Salvacion.
