The Federal Navy is the naval branch of The Armed Forces of Nidia and the second of the six uniformed services. It is made up of roughly 13 million active service men and women and operates over 1,000 warships, making it one of the larger forces in Tarquinia.

The Federal Navy is the second-largest force available to Nidia, after the Federal Army. However some advocates of the navy point out how much the navy is used in the modern world compared to the army and argue for the balance of figures needs to change. Fleet Command is based in Port Palla with secondary commands in the other major ports of Port Kar and Port Madoc. The Federal Navy also have several bases abroad, such as the facilities at Port Matthews, the Sand Islands and the Kilrathy Island chain.

The 21st century Federal Navy maintains a sizable global presence, deploying in such areas as Tyrrhenia, Lisosia and hot spots all around the world. It is a blue water navy with the ability to project force onto the littoral regions of the world, engage in forward areas during peacetime and rapidly respond to regional crises, making it an active player in Nidian foreign and defense policy.

Mission

The mission of the Federal Navy is to equip, train and maintain a fighting force capable of fighting the wars on behalf of Nidia and its allies, providing security around the world and maintain the first line of defence for Nidia.

The Federal Navy has four main areas of responsibility:

  • "The preparation and maintenance of forces capable of mounting operations of war"
  • "The maintenance of naval aviation, including land aircraft, air transportation essential for naval operations and all air weapons and air techniques involved in the operations and activities of the Navy"
  • "To constantly revamp, develop and refit the weaponry of the navy so it may complete its task to the best of its ability.
  • "To man, maintain and operate the Costal fortifications and that provide The Military Federations last line of seaward defence"

Organisation

The Federal Navy falls directly under Federal Armed Forces High Command Command, and the Council of Marshals after that. The chief officer of the Federal Navy is the Grand Wolf's Admiral, a five star Admiral who is immediately under Federal High Command and the Marshall of the Federation. At the same time the head of the Federal Navy is also one of the officers who makes up the Federal High Command.

Operating Forces

The Federal Navy is made up of seven sections, Fleet Central Command (CENTFLTCOM), Submarine Central Command (CENTSUBCOM), Naval Network Warfare Command, Navy Reserve, Naval Special Warfare Command, Operational Test and Evaluation Forces and Military Sealift Command. The Fleet in the Federal Navy is its primary striking force, responsible for supporting the efforts of the Military Federation all around the world. Fleet Central Command is responsible for the day to day operation of the set number of the Military Federations fleets. Fleet Central Command is also responsible for the ever changing number of naval battlegroups and task forces. Like Fleet Central Command.

In total the Military Federation has five numbered fleets which range from the 1st to the 5th and then six named fleets which are the Home Fleet, Tarquinian Fleet, Lisonian Fleet and the North, South and Central Tyrrhenian fleets. Each of the numbered fleets is normally commanded by at least an admiral, however there have been a few cases were a numbered fleet is commanded by a vice, sometimes even a rear admiral. However without exception the five named fleets are always commanded by a [an Admiral unless combat losses render this impractical.

Shore Establishments

Dock site 1-A of the Port Kar Federal Shipyards (Right) and the adjoining NADS Kar.

Shore establishment commands exist to support the mission of the seaborne fleets through the use of facilities on land. Focusing on logistics and combat-readiness, they are essential for the smooth, continuous and complete operation of naval forces. The variety of commands reflect the complexity of the modern Federal Navy and range from naval intelligence to personnel training to maintaining repair facilities. Two of the major logistics and repair commands are Naval Sea Systems Command and Naval Air Systems Command. Other commands such as the Military Intelligence Service- Naval Branch, the Federal Naval Observatory, and the Naval War College focus on intelligence and strategy. Training commands include the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Centre and the Port Kar Naval Academy.

The Navy maintains several "Regional Naval Facilities". These facilities are based around the regions of Tyrhennia and Lisosia and are designed to provide large scale logistical and repair facilities (among other uses) to Federal Fleets operating in the Region. These bases are normally based in colonial holdings of either The Military Federation or her allies. The largest of the RNF's in a region is normally home to the Regional Command, for example RNF Scarnir located in the Nidian colony of Tainith is home to REGCOMTYR (Regional Command Tyrrhenia).

Military Sealift Command

Military Sealift Command (MSC) serves not only the Federal Navy, but the entire Armed Forces as an ocean carrier of materiel. It transports equipment, fuel, ammunition, and other goods essential to the smooth function of Military Federations armed forces worldwide. Up to 95% of all supplies needed to sustain the Military Federations military can be moved by Military Sealift Command

Naval Tactical Operations Command

The Federal Navies "Naval Tactical Operations Command" is the Naval component of the Federal Armed Forces Special Operations Command (AFSOC), headquartered in Port Khaz. Naval Tactical Operations Command provides vision, leadership, doctrinal guidance, resources and oversight to ensure component maritime special operations forces are ready to meet the operational requirements of combatant commanders. The NTOC consists of the Operational Tactical Target Eradication Regiment (OTTER) and the Naval Tactical Support Group (NTSG).
