The Imperium Doomanum, or, Doomingsland to English-speakers, is the largest country in terms of land mass in Haven and considered a regional superpower. With much of the country comprised of harsh, unforgiving desert, much of the population is concentrated in smaller, primarily urban areas. It is among the oldest countries in Haven, its founding dating back to 750 BC with the unification of the proto-Doomani tribes under Doomanus Rex, and as a result of this and other factors there is a strong feeling of nationalism and cultural superiority amongst the Doomani people. For the past 70 years Doomingsland has been governed by a theocratic monarchy, which has made expansionism a standard practice in foreign policy.
Despite extreme regulations in political and civil rights, Doomingsland is noted for its laissez-faire economy. It is the largest Latin-speaking nation in Haven and is the center of the Doomani Catholic Church.

Etymology
The word Doomingsland is the anglicized form of the word Doomanum, which was named for the ancient hero Doomanus, mythological founder of Urbs Doomanus and father of the Doomani people. While actual meaning of the word Doomanum, has been lost to us, most historians attribute the word to the name Doomanus alone, as it was customary amongst the proto-Doomani for cities to be named after their founders.
History
The first historical reference to the early Doomani was in approximately 1200 BC. The Zukariaan historian Galipolopolos wrote of a war-like race of tall, olive-skinned folk living in the mostly desolate Brass Mountains in modern Doomanum Majoris that he referred to as the Badassoi. He wrote of them as a collection of warring tribes who fought staggeringly barbaric and bloody wars amongst themselves to please their chief deity, the blood god Carnifex, who was said to care not from whence the blood flowed, only that it flowed. Galipolopolos also wrote that they practiced human sacrifice, writing in detail of their barbaric and terrifying rituals that were mostly identical to the well documented sacrificial rites performed by the later Doomani. Galipolopolos made mention of the disposal of infants deemed imperfect by the tribal warlords, as physical imperfections were considered to be a sign of disfavor from the blood god. More practically perhaps, this practice was suspected by Galipolopolos to be a result of the proto-Doomani society, which was based entirely around the waging of war upon their neighboring tribes to satiate the blood god's thirst and earn his favor. He claimed them to be descendants of the ancient hero Acheros, a refugee from the destroyed city of Acheria.
The ancient Doomani historian Paulus in his Historiae wrote that in 750 BC, the proto-Doomani tribes were united under the king Doomanus, who founded a new fortress-city in the heart of the Brass Mountains, Urbs Doomanus, to be his capital. It is at this point that the people of the proto-Doomani tribes began to refer to themselves collectively as Doomani. Doomanus was then said to embark on a campaign of unheard of scale and cruelty against neighboring city-states in modern Doomanum Majoris, the begining of a period in Doomani history called the Unificatio in which modern mainland Doomingsland was brought under the rule of Urbs Doomanus. This campaign would last for over four hundred and fifty years, until Doomanum stretched from the Axackal Sea in the west to the Sea of Doomanum in the east.
The year 500 BC saw the dethroning of the last king and the foundation of the Res Publica Doomanus, one of the world's first republics, which continued the Unificatio of the kings before them to bring what they referred to as Doomanum Magnus under the control of the Republic. The Res Publica brought with it many modern concepts, such as citizenship and the right to a trial by a jury of peers as well as a written constitution and extensive set of laws.

Economy
Lacking natural resources of any worth (including colonies), Doomingsland's economy depends upon the gullibility and the willingness to run budgets into the ground of various prole governments, most prominently in its arms manufacturing and export business. As a result, the Doomani economy is extremely strong.
